How did you choose to pursue this field?
I chose this field because I wanted to go into another area outside of automotive where I spent over 20 something years - I wanted to try something new . So as I researched different areas, I realize I already had a lot of skill sets in project management and product life cycle (working on projects from beginning to end successfully).
So I decided to go for my certification in PMP and it became a reality.
Who was your inspiration or role model that guided you to this field?
My parents are my inspiration - they both encouraged me and my brother to follow our dreams and to do our best in whatever wedid.
Did you always have the desire to work in this field?
Initially, I did not choose to go into engineering. I was planning to go into computer or business since I was involved in DECA.
I changed my mind after I spoke to my counselor who gave me great advice and encouraged me to pursue a STEM field and to attend a HBCU.
What do you love most about your job?
I live being able to help people figure out how to use our tools and data to make better decisions about their health and community.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job or career?
The most rewarding aspect of this job is being able to share this info with others in the community and helping my students in their career path.
Also, seeing the product that you helped develop in the field and being enjoyed by customers.
What things would you change about your job?
I wouldn't change a thing. I really enjoy what I do, working as a team on new technology, and adding value to others.
What has been the most difficult or disappointing aspect of your job?
I think the most difficult aspect of my job may be not being taken seriously or respected by some colleagues.
How have you combated the stigma of being a "woman of color" in STEM?
Yes, early on in my career I did because there were not many of us in the industry I could look up to or I didn't know about them.
So I joined our recruiting staff to get more people of color that were qualified and excelled in the field to join our team.
What tips would you offer for anyone thinking about entering into your profession?
I would say just go for it if you're inspired to go into a STEM field or more specifically project management.
Also look for mentors in the field or someone you can look up to that will help you guide you. Do it afraid!
What advice would you give your younger self about your career journey as a "woman of color" working in a predominantly white, male-dominated field?
Don't be afraid to go after your dreams and have a voice/seat at the table when asked. Always be ready to look for new opportunities.
Can you provide some words of wisdom to young ladies considering entering a STEM field as a career choice?
Don't be afraid to follow your dreams. Always do things that you're passionate about. Look for mentors in the area you like to be in, and get experience like internships or shadow a professional.

The Golden rule: Do unto others as you will have them do unto you.
